“I know more about those children than I ever wanted to know!” Amy said.

Heather sighed. Visiting the parents involved with the holiday pageant hadn’t revealed much. They had found out a lot about the children’s schoolwork and extracurricular activities since winter break had ended. However, they didn’t find anyone who had a motive for killing Heather after she caught the director’s murderer.

The parents all seemed grateful to her for solving the case and allowing the show to go on. They talked to the adult actors in the show and got a similar response. No one seemed to bear her any ill will for her part in the proceedings. In fact, most were happy to see her and thank her in person. Even the man they had considered their prime suspect for a while was glad to see them and explain how all stolen property from the case had been reunited with its owner.

Heather had even gained some extra business. Her visits to question those involved in the pageant had also led to some people making Valentine’s Day orders with her. Since her shop had lost out on walk-in business that day while it was closed as a crime scene, she was happy to take the orders.

However, now they felt like they were back to square one with the case.

“I don’t know what to do,” Amy said. “The cases we looked into don’t seem related to this threat on your life now. And we just don’t have time to go through every single case you’ve ever investigated. You have too impressive a resume to do that.”

“Thanks,” said Heather. “But there must be something that we can do to narrow down what cases to look at.”

“Any ideas on what they could be?”

“Not right now,” Heather admitted. “But maybe an idea will occur to me after a good night’s sleep. After all the legwork we did today, I’m exhausted. Even with the fear that someone is after me, I know I’ll sleep well tonight!”
